Get Your Feet Wet
Joshua 3:17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
It sounds easy. Just walk on dry ground when the Jordan dries up. If that were the case, there would be no faith needed, but that wasn't the case. The priest actually had to step into the water and trust God that He would come through. I wonder what those few moments were like as they stood in ankle deep water waiting on God. It's probably similar to how they would feel a few days later as they marched around Jericho in silence. It's probably how I often feel when I step out in faith without any physical evidence or justification other than a trust in a never failing God. The truth is, God does require us to step out, and He asks us quite often. It started with our new birth, which required a faith to believe Him for eternal life when there was no tangible evidence to grasp......just faith. Oh but when we did step out and believe, we experienced the joy and peace that salvation brings and an overwhelming manifestation of His Spirit! Every time that we have an opportunity to grow in God it seems to require a few steps in the dark, and those few steps never go unnoticed by Him. Just think how the priest felt as the waters around their ankles begin to recede before their very eyes........what an awesome God! He is worth stepping out for! Let's get our feet wet.

God is Faithful!! There is a saying that I heard that said, "You have to step out to find out", and that is so true. We can also say that if We never step out we will never find out. Just like our scripture today, if the priests had not stepped out into the Jordan they would have never seen the miraculous hand of Almighty God. We have confidence to know that no matter what, we can step out and God WILL show up. I want my feet to get wet, how about you?
ReplyDeleteI can't get this devotion off my mind this morning. I just can't help but think, that we so many times live in fear of stepping out. We are afraid of making the wrong decisions or getting ahead of God. Think about this with me for a moment.... would we rather to not step out and never know what could've happened? Really, what so bad about stepping out in faith even if it doesn't work the way we imagined? We would at least know we tried and gained some valuable experience from doing so. I'm not saying to force things or to make things happen in our own power, but when we are presented with a opportunity from God and for God...... He is worth getting our feet wet.
ReplyDeleteIt may be a baby step or a big boy step, but God will be there just the same!
