Joshua 4:9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.
It was a moment that they would never forget. A moment that could have come forty years earlier, but now there was no backing down. It was time to cross that Jordan River. For years and years that generation heard about the failure to trust God and believe, and I can only imagine how it must have felt when they had safely crossed and turned and looked back at the magnitude of the moment. They would remember this moment for the rest of their lives, but what about their children, and their grandchildren? Would they forget? Would the impact of this moment one day fade away and become just another day in their history? Not if they could help it! The twelve stones that they gathered and stacked up was not only to solidify what had happened that day in their life, but even more so it was a reminder for generations to come that something so monumental occurred there that a memorial was erected to remember it. Somewhere down the line we have forgotten the importance of magnifying God and His wonderful ways for our children and the generations to come. Nothing encourages me more than to have someone more experienced than me to testify of God's faithfulness. Shouldn't that cause me to do the same for those with less experience than me? If you have crossed a Jordan in your life, praise God for it, but don't stop there! Find someone yet to cross and tell them how wonderful the view is from the other side. By sharing with them your experience, you are building a monument that will serve as a reminder for others, and if we are faithful, there is no telling how many people we can lead from doubt to faith!
