A Monotonous Miracle

Joshua 5:12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Manna was a miracle from God, and it came every day. Every day for forty years. The miracle food became familiar, and monotonous. It wasn't meant to be this way. It wasn't God's plan that they eat manna for so long, but their lack of faith prolonged their daily diet of these little wafers from heaven. It was baby food of sorts, just meant to sustain them until they took the next step of maturity across the Jordan. When they eventually took that step, the manna quit coming, and their diet came from the fruitful land of Canaan. When we first believed, God fed us the milk of the Word (1 Peter 2:2), but He didn't expect us to stay on the baby food. Instead, He desires that we mature and learn to take steps of faith as sincere followers of Christ. We shouldn't spend our whole life looking to be fed, without the ability or desire to feed ourselves the Word of God. There comes a time for all of us to stop whining, get out of the highchair, and partake of the more edifying Words of God, even if it is sometimes hard to chew. If your walk with God has become stale and boring, perhaps it is time for you to cross your Jordan, pull yourself up a big boy chair, and eat some meat and taters!
