Righteous Indignation

Exodus 32:20
And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Is it okay to get angry? When the people made a golden calf and started worshipping it while Moses was on the mountain receiving the commandments, God got angry. So angry, that He was about to wipe them all off the face of the earth. Moses pleaded with God, and God calmed down so to speak, and agreed not to kill everyone. Now Moses walks down the mountain and sees with his own eyes that the people were throwing a party and celebrating their new god. What does Moses do? He gets angry! So angry that he breaks the stone tablets that God had written upon, destroyed the golden calf that was made, ground it into powder, and made them a kool aide out of water and golden calf powder! A few minutes earlier, Moses was trying to get God to chill, and now Moses was blowing his top, and when you really look at it closely, he should have been angry. What they did was ridiculous. Did the anger of Moses and God mean that the people weren't loved? Of course not! It was because of love that their anger was so great. On any given day, God could look down and see other nations foolishly worshipping false and phony gods, but this wasn't another nation, this was God's chosen people that He delivered by His power and outstretched arm. Anger is many times the wrong emotion, but if we can look at what's going on around us in our "Christian" nation "under God" without getting at least a little bit of righteous indignation, then we need some more quality time with our Creator.

  1. It's good to know that anger is not a sin. Frustration and stress is a daily part of my life since I got married and had kids. I have learned that you really can become angry and not sin as a result. I haven't achieved the success that I desire to yet but I have no other choice but to continue the practice. At the rate that i am going, I will be the most tolerant old man in Alabama!LOL! I do get angry about things like abortion or sex-slavery or child and women abuse. I wish that I was the reaper and could enforce the punishment to these people with such scumbag behavior! But I am reminded that the real enemy is the darkness, the devil and the powers of this dark world. And Jesus has defeated him and will one day make it all right, completly!
