Replacing God

Exodus 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us;

Wow. Every time I read this I am amazed at how quickly the people gave up on the living God, and made a make believe god in His place. Moses was on the mountain spending quality time with God, but the people thought something must have happened to him and they came up with a plan to carry without Moses or his God. Amazing. But should I be amazed? Haven't we been guilty of the same thing more times than we would like to admit? We often start well, depending on God for guidance and provision, but when He delays, or takes longer than we think He should, we replace Him with make believe gods like money, possessions, and prescriptions. We must not make the mistake of thinking that God's delays are opportunities for us to take matters into our own hands. If He has closed the door in front of us, the we must stand still and wait on the right door to open. He is our Leader, and He is faithful. He is our Good Shepherd, and He will never abandon us. He is God, and He can't be replaced.

  1. I could kinda understand where the Isrealites were coming from, I mean sometimes it's difficult doing things God's way. I am not saying that it's ok to worship man made gods, but I can feel their pain. God seems to always bring out the weakness' in me so I can be free from the denial. I am so thankful that He doesn't leave us in our bound state! Even when we are found in idol worship or some other sin, God's kindness leads us towards repentance! God is slow to anger ang quick to show mercy, He has a kind heart that is tender with compassion! Oh how I love Jesus!
