Matthew 18:21Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?
Where do I draw the line? Isn’t that the question that Peter was asking? How many times should I forgive before I say “not again”? Jesus’ answer was remarkable. He said “seventy times seven”……and He wasn’t talking about seventy times seven times for as long as you know them……He was talking about seventy times seven times in a day! I don’t know about you, but that’s a lot more than I would have said, but when you look at it, the number really isn’t important. Jesus could have said 200 or 2000, because what He was really saying is that we should live a life of forgiveness, without holding grudges…..it’s God’s way. It’s right about now that our flesh says “I just can’t do that! You don’t know my enemies! You don’t understand everything that’s been done to me! They don’t deserve it, and they are not worthy of it! And there is the heart of the matter. God is simply asking us to do for others as He has done for us. We were all exceedingly sinful. To break one of God’s laws is to break them all, so we are all guilty and rightly so, but God chose to forgive us and I am forever grateful that He did! When I choose not to forgive, I am living the life of a hypocrite. God help me to see myself as forgiven so that I can forgive others. Amen.
