A Worthy House

2 Chronicles 2:6 But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him? Nothing that we can build is worthy for our God. It can be the most elegant, luxurious, elaborate work humanly possible, but it will still be unworthy of the King of Glory. Nothing can contain Him, not even the highest heavens! Solomon's temple was costly to say the least, and there hasn't been one like it since, but even Solomon realized that its purpose was not to impress God with its worth, but merely to offer sacrifices unto Him. Sacrifices were given under the Old Covenant to make atonement for the sins of the people, but they had an even greater purpose. They were a prophetic picture of Christ Himself and His once and for all sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:10). True worth is found in Him and only in Him. Under the New Covenant, God doesn't live in a building, instead we are God's temple (1Corinthians 6:19). But just like the Temple of Solomon, all of our efforts can't even begin to make our temple worthy of The Lord. The worth is found in the Sacrifice, and He has brought His glory into our vessels of clay (2Corinthians 4:7).
