When Silence is an Answer

1 Samuel 28:6 And when Saul enquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. Saul was afraid because of the Philistines who had gathered together against Israel. When he went to the Lord for advice, the Lord didn't answer. This should have been a sign for Saul, but Saul missed it. Instead of realizing or even questioning why God was silent, Saul went to a psychic for advice, and reached a new low in his rebellion against God. We must not make the same mistake as Saul. If God doesn't answer when we pray, there is a reason. Perhaps we asked the wrong question. Saul's problem wasn't the Philistines. His dilemma was his backslidden condition. The right question would have been "What can I do to get back to where I need to be?". We also need to realize that silence is an answer. When God says nothing, He is surely saying "Come, let's talk about what's most important". Our response to God's silence can never be to go elsewhere for advice, because that's what caused our separation in the first place. Most importantly, when we can't hear or feel God's leading in our spirit, we can go to His Word where Truth and Wisdom is shouting for all to hear.

  1. Impatience has been a weakness of mine all of my life. I have learned to wait upon the Lord, in prayer and service. I still get impatient at times but when I do I get busy doind the Lord's work helping others. It helps pass the time.
