Not My Place

1 Samuel 24:5 And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. Saul was chasing David with one purpose in mind. To kill him. The nation was in transition, with Saul on the way out, and David on the way in. God's favor upon David was evident, and his fame was rapidly growing. Saul's moral decay was more than obvious with his attempt to end the reign of David before it ever happened. Is just so happened that Saul would end up spending the night in the same cave as David. David's mighty men encouraged him to use this opportunity to rid himself of the one who was out to get him. What David did next was unusual at best. He let Saul live. Just cutting off a piece of Saul's garment brought a sick feeling to David's heart. To David, Saul was still God's man. Still the anointed king of Israel. Even though Saul had abused his powers and sealed his fate, it wasn't David's place to take this matter into his own hands. As a pastor, it saddens my heart to see other pastors and teachers be so quick to cut down their own. As a Christian, it crushes my spirit to see other believers so easily destroy their fallen brothers and sisters. I pray that we would all have the heart of David, and let God do what He does in His own time and way.

  1. Well written. I beleive this behavior comes with maturity. Most Christians are not maturing properly. We must grow to the place of maturity were we can rebuke with authority and love when God says to. This takes surrender.
