Lift Him Up
Numbers 21:8
And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
Fiery serpents came into the camp of Israel, and people were dying. It was time for another "Jesus moment" in the Old Testament. God commanded Moses to build a serpent and put it on a pole, and hold it up. Everyone who looked upon it would live. If anyone chose not to, they would die. In the New Testament we have the true meaning and purpose of this event: John 3:14 says "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:". The Bible teaches that we have all been bitten by sin, and because of it, death is unavoidable. It's unavoidable unless we choose to look to Jesus for salvation. I'm so thankful that I did, and because I did, I have eternal life through Christ my Saviour. And now that I know the remedy for sin, I take on the role of Moses. I must lift up Christ so that the world will choose to look at Him. What an incredible responsibility we have, having become aware of the only way to be saved from the wages of sin! But what if people don't respond? What if I do what I should, but people don't respond? That isn't for us to try and figure out. We must trust Him and believe what He said when He proclaimed "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12:32). It's time that more than ever before, we lifted Jesus high for everyone, every where to see Him.
