Better than Aaron

Leviticus 9:8 Aaron therefore went unto the altar, and slew the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.

Aaron and the tribe of Levi were a special people in the sight of Israel. They worked very hard in the service of the Lord, carrying out all of the many requirements that were specified by God concerning sacrifices. Aaron stood out above the others as he served as the only one able to go into the Most Holy Place on the Day of Atonement to make atonement for all of Israel. So when it came to the priests, they were the best when it came to holiness, and Aaron was the best of the best. With that in mind, look at our scripture today. Even though Aaron was the most revered among the priest, he too had to offer a sin offering for himself. The one who was responsible for bringing the nation to holiness, was not holy enough to do it on his own merit. The whole system was flawed because man is flawed because man is corrupt with sin. Even though it was not perfect, it painted a beautiful picture of what Jesus would do as our Great High Priest. Unlike Aaron, Jesus needed no cleansing before entering the Most Holy Place, because He was without sin. I love the way Hebrews 9:12 says "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us." It is no longer a once a year event, because Jesus walked right in and sat right down having made atonement with His own blood! having been eternally redeemed, we now have been given access that is greater than what Aaron had. It is unfortunate that we take this truth for granted so often. Make a new commitment today to enter in through the blood of Jesus Christ.

  1. I'm thankful that I have and we have a great high Priest such as Jesus Christ, who was tempted in every way as we are yet was without sin, and who is ever living to make intercession for us. Jesus Is Better!!!!!!

  2. It's so good to know that we have a 24 hour hotline with the Creator of everything. We do take this for granted far too much. In spite of us doing so, He loves us the very same. He is so good!
