"Power of Unity" 3-5-12

Genesis 11:6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

The power of unity. In chapter 11 of the book of Genesis, the people of the earth came together to build a tower that would reach to heaven. It must have been a pretty impressive building, because God came down to take a look. By the way, that's a great revelation for us.......the best that we could ever do, the highest we could ever go, would still fall extremely short of God. So God came down and in doing so, we see the power of unity, and the destructiveness of disunity. God makes the statement here that nothing will be restrained from a unified people. If the body of Christ could only grasp this reality! What could believers do if we came together and actually fought the good fight together? It's amazing sometimes to look at the petty things that divide us, and these little things keep us from bombarding the gates of hell the way that God has intended us too. The bad news is that divisions are found, not only from one denomination to the next, but also in individual churches. So are we supposed to all have the same thoughts and opinions about everything all the time? Of course not! God loves color, and I'm thankful that He didn't make all of us the same, but different people should be able to come together for a good cause, and what better cause is there than the greatest cause of all......the gospel of Jesus Christ? When God confounded their language, their ability to work together vanished, and with it, their potential to build anything significant disappeared as well. As the body of Christ, I pray that we all speak the same language......the language of love. A love for Christ, a love for His Word, and a love for people. No telling what would happen. Let's do it!

  1. I agree pastor. Even if we don't always agree on everything, we can still love each other. That's what a healthy family does for each other because they love each other. The love of Christ brings believers together with the strongest bond that this world has ever known! If that's our main motivation we can do it.
