"One Thing" 3-16-12

Genesis 17:5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.

Can you imagine having a name that means "high father", but you don't have any children? This was the case for Abram. For him and his wife, it was difficult enough being without children, but even his own name added to the punishment every time someone called him Abram. He had heard the promise of God, and he believed it, but when would it happen, and how? That's when God came along and gave Abram a recharge, a confirmation. In essence, God was saying "I wasn't kidding when I told you that your offspring would outnumber the stars.....I know that you are eagerly waiting on your first-born, but I'm changing your name today to Abraham!". And with that, God expanded the vision of Abram "high father", to Abraham "father of multitudes"! God was saying "Isaac is coming, but there is a whole lot more coming too"! It's easy for us to focus on the one thing that we lack, or the one thing that we really want to conquer, but when we focus on one thing, we lose sight of the fact that our God is a whole lot bigger than our one thing. What if we stopped trying to believe God for the next hurdle, and started believing God for the finish line!

  1. I really enjoy seeing the future. Without vision we will perish right? Obviously God's plan is way bigger than ours. We really do need to see the bigger picture, so to speak. There is a peace that I find with vision. I just know that I know and that's good enough for me!
