"Heaven's Bank" 3-29-12

Genesis 41:38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh, and in it we find great wisdom. Pharaoh dreamed that seven fat cows came up out of the Nile, followed by seven skinny cows that came up and ate the fat cows, and were still skinny. Joseph, with wisdom from God, directed Pharaoh to find a man that would oversee storing up food during what would be seven years of plenty, because there would be seven years of famine that would make people forget the good years. Of course Pharaoh gave Joseph the job, and Joseph became second in power over all of Egypt! The most simple application of this Scripture would teach us about being good stewards with what God blesses us with. Don't be wasteful with your blessings thinking that there will never be tough times, because there probably will be. But what about a spiritual application for this passage? What if we steadily and consistently built a relationship with God through daily prayer and Bible study so that we weren't caught empty and vulnerable when life threw us a curve ball? "Storing up" your treasures in heaven are not just so that you can have rewards after you die. Think of it like a spiritual bank account that can't be hacked, and will always be available for a withdrawal when needed. If you make those spiritual deposits each day, you will be glad you did when that rainy day comes along. And if by chance you don't yet have an account in the First Bank of Heaven, go ahead and open one up today and consider this devotion your first deposit!

  1. `This is so true pastor. Our hearts can deceive us and when hard times come, we find out that what we haven't been doing has a price with it! But praise God, He is greater than our hearts and can keep us, but that's not what I want! I want to live the blessed life, in complete surrender to God!! I want to know that when I go to heaven that I gave God glory and not disappointment. I want people to know who my God was and have a smile on their face when they speak of me! I want my children to receive a great inheritance! I want others to see Jesus in me. I don't want to keep on falling short in the same areas and never grow. I don't want to be complacent! I want to be on fire with love from God!
