"God is Calling" 3-20-12

Genesis 22:1 Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”

"Here I am". That was Abraham's reply to God's call, and with those three words he said a mouth full. Abraham would take his only son Isaac, and give him back to God. I can't even begin to imagine what a gut wrenching time it must have been for Abraham. But how could he say no? Isaac was a child of promise, and without God's divine intervention, Abraham and Sarah would have never had a child. Abraham was giving back what God had so graciously given, and he never hesitated. The Lord stopped him, and provided a ram as a substitute for his son. As the father of faith, we could learn so much from Abraham. We too have been given something that we could never produce without God........eternal life. I still can't get over the fact that God has been so gracious to me! Considering this, is it too much for God to ask us to give our lives to Him in return? The Bible says that it is our reasonable service, and in light of his tremendous sacrifice, ours is quite small don't you think? God is calling, what will your answer be? Here I am!

  1. Here I am...WOW ! how often do we ignore His vioce when its something that we do not want to do or here about? Here I am is not our first responce are last maybe. I think of one of my grandsons that has developed the habbit of continual asking. You know please, please, please...trying to wear me down. Too often God has to do the same with us to get us to obey or compleat what he desires to "test" in our lives. The Father knows its best but we know it could be unpleasent so we put off obediance. We have to get to the place that we realize that Father does know best !

  2. I may be taking this verse and it's wording a little out of context, but I like how Abraham answered Yes.... Before Abraham even knew the request from God his answer was "yes". This should be our response as well. Even before we know what God is asking of us or wanting from us, we should always answer yes before we even know what the Question is. When God calls my name I just want to say Yes God..... now what is it I am to do?

  3. I would have to agree that to give my son as a sacrifice would be giving my life away. My son's are my life in a way. I too can't imagine how Abraham must have felt when he was told to sacrifice his son. But, Abraham also dealt with being without a son for years and years. And God gave him a promise which took even longer to come to pass. So, I imagine that when it did come to pass Abraham couldn't take responsibilty for it so easily which could've helped his decision making. I am trying to say that Abraham was prepared by God to do His will for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God always prepares us for the next trial even when we don't realize it. God knows just how to get the "Yes" from us no matter what!

  4. Yes when God calls, to be able to say use me here I am. But not knowing what God may ask of us. We have to go on blind faith. Over the years to be able to know when God was calling or what he was asking for. I sometimes wonder how many times I- see that word again I. Was too busy doing my thing to hear God whenhe called. But being a God of Grace he will give us another chance if we miss his call the first time. If we miss too much he will ask someone else because he is God. Ken
