Genesis 15:18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land.....
Abraham was all set to enter into this covenant with God. He got the animals, cut them into, and laid them in two lines with a path down the middle. It was customary to walk between the animals with the other party, ratifying the covenant together. There was only one problem: God had a different plan! God caused Abraham to fall asleep, and God walked between the animals without Abraham. That's right, what appeared to be a bilateral covenant, would actually be a unilateral one. In essence, God was saying "Abraham, you believed in me, and I"m gonna take care of the rest! Every promise that I made to you, I will be responsible to perform it"! Why is this significant for us you might ask? Do you remember the song Father Abraham? It said "Father Abraham, had many sons, many sons had father Abraham, and I am one of them, and so are you, so let's just praise the Lord"! Just like Abraham, God is simply asking of us a genuine faith and trust in Him, and He will take care of the rest.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (Proverbs 3:5) All we can do is trust in Him, because only God can provide what is necessary to accomplish His will and promises in our lives and in this world.
ReplyDelete"Prepare ye the way of the Lord..". Trust takes a humble heart that surrenders to another, giving that person the freedom to do what they will. I have to admit that this was very hard for me to do for many of years. Fear kept me from the right people, more importantly God! I was afraid of being hurt by others. There was no way around it either. I had to trust God and others before I could get better. And when I let go and let God in, my world was turned upside down. Fear was replaced with love from God. I wasn't concerned about getting hurt anymore! God took care of the rest.
