GFYD 2-27-12 "Questions"

Genesis 3:9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

It is very interesting to me when I find God asking questions. Does God not know the answer? Is it possible that we know something that He doesn't? Of course the answer is NO. God has no need of finding out anything from our little feeble brains, but He does ask us questions. Adam and Eve had sinned, and because of sin, they were now hiding from a God that they used to fellowship with. God knew where they were, but He asked them about their location for their own benefit. If I put myself in Adam's shoes, I can see how answering that question would really bring clarity to my situation. I can imagine Adam thinking to himself "I used to walk with God and now I'm hiding from Him......that's where I am! I am a long way away from where I used to be, that's for sure!". If you think about it, answering that question was the first step toward healing. Now Adam's sin starting something that only the death of Christ could erase, but it was Adam's recognition of his fallen state, his honesty with God about his current location that allowed him to be able to see God begin His plan of redemption. Contrast this with Cain's cover up and denial of murdering his brother. Is it possible that God still asks questions from time to time? Where are you? What are you doing to fulfill the great commission? What areas of your life have you refused to surrender to Me? I think that I would be a good idea to answer, even if we wish the answer was different.

  1. I have actually had God ask me a question like this one. I was in treatment and was going to stand up and go to the nurses desk to request some ibuprofen. Usually taking ibuprofen would be fine, but I wasn't in physical pain. I was angry and in emotional pain. For years I had taken pain pills much stronger than ibuprofen to numb emotional pain. And at this moment I was going to do what I had done for years, when I was knocked back down in my seat by the Lord. Immediately I heard a small still voice say to me "what are you doing?". God knew what I was doing but until I heard His voice ask me, I didn't! It's amazing to me that when God's presence shows up, I seem to just absorb information in an instance. On many occasion I can remember the Lord ask me questions only to answer them right after. I love it, I want more it!In Jesus' name.
