Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Let's talk about focus. Focus is the central point of attraction or attention. When it comes vision, it is an image that is clear and sharply defined. Often times in a movie there will be an image in the distance that is clear, and an image close up that is blurry. The director of the movie causes our eyes to change focus as he directs the camera to slowly bring the closest image into clarity while blurring out the distant picture. What we are focused on changes everything! The way we live our life is directly related to what we focus on. Our scripture today tells us to focus on the heavenly instead of the earthly. What are these things above that we are to focus on? The Bible teaches us that the Kingdom of God is "righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost"........that definitely sounds like a good place to start doesn't it? When we focus on other things, we make God the blurry part of our life's picture, and we find ourself anxious, fearful or even depressed. On the other hand, when we focus on God, we can clearly see that our God is greater than our circumstances and there is no need to fear or doubt. Take a minute today and answer this question: What is clear in my life, and what is blurry? Then change your focus!

Jesus said that the comforter would come to us and make His home with us. Usually my focus gets off when I am full of strong negative emotions. The circumstances that arise causes stress, anger, fear, sadness, etc...These emotions are real and must be dealt with the right way. I used drugs, alcohol, and other things to deal but it made them worse in the long run. But, when I learned how to deal with them by focusing on God, my emotions got easier to handle. I still have my emotions but I dont have to deal with them with the wrong things and they get better not worse. The more I focus or think about the problem the worse my emotions get which leads to loss of self-control. But the more I focus on God the more self-control I have.
