Psalm 84:10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Think of the potential here. The word "courts" in this verse relates to us as the presence of God. As people of the New Covenant, God doesn't dwell in a temple made by men, but instead lives inside of men and women who receive Him. One day with Him is better than a thousand. A thousand what you might ask? Just fill in the blanks for yourself. A day in His presence is better than a thousand days of anything else apart from Him. I can't fill my day with anything better than Him! Now that sort of makes me wonder why I'm often very efficient at filling my days with other things......what about you? Our flesh, or natural man spends its days trying to get the next thrill, seek the next rush, find the next pleasure, thinking that somehow fulfillment will come, but it never does. On the contrary, a day lived out in the presence of God through prayer and the Word, always brings an abundance of blessings that money can't buy. The psalmist goes even further when he says that he would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God, than to live in the tents of wickedness. To live in the tents of wickedness would mean to be where all the action is. To live the so called "high life" of self indulgence and sinful pleasure. On the contrary, to be a doorkeeper for God's house seems to me like you would only get to enjoy the fringes of God's blessings as other come in to His presence. But the psalmist here declares that it's better to experience some of God than all the devil has to offer! From experience I would suggest that once you get a taste of the fringes of His glory, and once you spend a day in His presence, you will be satisfied with nothing less than going all in. Lord I pray that you open our eyes to the abundance in you. Amen.

  1. I enjoy getting away and going places, I many times think I need a "break" and want to do something fun or relaxing. What if..... in those moments we sought the presence of God, what if it were His Courts we wanted to visit or vacation to? No matter what we do where we go it will never compare to what we receive as we spend time with Him.

  2. I heard an amazing song yesterday that really blessed my heart. A woman who was a breast cancer survivor was singing it. She said that she was greatful that she had had breast cancer. Because of it she new that she was loved. The song was "Just came to talk to you Lord". The lyrics was so sweet. She said she didn't have any special request to ask of Him, that she just wanted to talk to Him. Wow! That's the heart that God gives His children. Just like our children just want us to spend time with them. I am guilty of wanting to give my children everything, but I know that I shouldn't for obvious reasons. So our Father in Heaven cannot give us everything that we want. But we can always give them more of our time. God will never hurt us by giving us more of Him. God thank you for the love that says " I just want to talk to you for a little while, storms and trials may come tomorrow, but I just want to spend some time today with You!
