GFYD 11-05-11 "Our Advocate"

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Sin is destructive. When the Bible says that the wages of sin is death.......it isn't joking! That's why it is crucial for us to take hold of God's Word, and hide it in our heart so that we might not sin against God. There is no greater weapon against sin than the Word of God, and we should be using more of it to fight this daily battle. But what if we sin? I say "what if" for those who don't want to admit that they sometimes miss the mark.......although the Bible tells us that we all miss the mark, and to break the law in just one part means that you are as guilty if you broke every law. Here is the good news......we have an Advocate. We have One who will speak on our behalf. His name is Jesus, and He can speak on our behalf because He is qualified. He is qualified because He lived as a man. He put on human flesh and walked in our shoes. He is qualified because He walked in our shoes without sinning one time. He lived perfectly before the Father....by the way, He is the only one to ever do so. So if you find yourself today hiding from God because of your failure to live perfectly before Him, you don't have to hide........come to the Advocate.......He paid the price for your sin, before you ever did it. Amen
