Expect Adversity

Nehemiah 4:2 ...“What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap—and charred ones at that?” In a perfect world, everyone would be excited for you to restore or rebuild. However, the last time that I checked, our world is far from perfect. When Nehemiah took on this project to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, not everyone was happy about it. There were some who wished for failure, and actually tried to hinder the work. We shouldn't be surprised when we face opposition when doing God's work, instead we should expect opposition if we truly are serving Him. Adversity serves to strengthen our resolve and focus our efforts. It leads us to prayer and increases our desire for His guidance. Just remember, all adversity comes from our adversary. The fight for believers is not flesh and blood, but it's against "evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places."(Ephesians 6:12 NLT). The point is this, if God has called you to do a work, do it, but know that there will be some naysayers, some tension, and even some resistance. But you can work with assurance that God will be faithful, and the enemy will not prevail.

  1. This devotion sure came at just the right time huh? I mean starting a new campus at Life is making the enemy very mad at the least! I have had wispers of discouragement in my ears lately. We have their attention, let's fight back with unbridled praise to God! I want to see just how much damage that we can do to the kingdom of darkness!
