Exposure

2 Kings 22:8 Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the court secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the LORD’s Temple!” Then Hilkiah gave the scroll to Shaphan, and he read it. The Word of God had been ignored for several years until the High Priest Hilkiah, under the reign of Josiah discovered the scroll in the Temple. It was overwhelmingly obvious that God's Word was not being lived out. The Word of The Lord still has that impact on our lives when we expose ourselves to it. It is quick to reveal our heart, and even the motives behind our actions. When our Bibles get dusty on the shelf, our lives always gravitate toward the sinful tendencies of our flawed flesh. Unlike the generations before us, we have numerous ways to bring the Word into our heart. With the help of technology, we can find passages in a few seconds that once took much longer to find. I think that sometimes that is not always best because it can take away the digging and searching that often unearths hidden gems in His Book. I challenge you to expose yourself to the life giving, life transforming power of the Word!

  1. There is no doubt to me that we are overwhelmed with too much in this generation.I have thought about this many times as I have been raising four young children. I am concerned that earnestness and gratitude for God and His word and His Spirit only come as a result of poor decision making due to an over abundance of things! Can we really learn to appreciate God without having an affair first, or going to prison for killing another in a accident while drinking and driving, etc...? It seems that America wants more and more but at what cost! Jesus said,"Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven". What is our definition of "being blessed"?
