Another Chance to Pour Out

2 Kings 4:2 “What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. This poor widow had already lost her husband, and was jeopardy of losing her son. She needed help. When asked what she had in her home, she replied "nothing at all, except......". It's interesting that she emphasized the nothing that she had, and disregarded the something that she had. She spoke of the flask of oil as if it didn't matter. With God, it's the small things in our lives, the things that we don't think amount to much, that He desires to use in a mighty way. God used the widow's little flask of oil to fill up every empty container that she could find. It was only when she ran out of containers that her flask of oil became empty. God has given us all a measure of oil. In the scriptures, oil represents the Holy Spirit, and when we trust in Christ the Spirit comes into our house, or body. I believe that just as it was with the widow, we can pour out of ourselves into the lives of others, and we will never run dry as long as we are pouring out. It's only when we become inward, and refuse to share what God has freely given, that we find our spiritual walk with Him empty and without passion. I bet if that poor widow was given a second chance, she would never quit looking for empty containers so that her little flask of oil would keep on producing. Well, consider today as another chance for you to share the oil.
