What I Really Want
1 Kings 3:9
Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”
What if God were to ask you what you really wanted? What if He promised to give you whatever you requested of Him? This is exactly what happened to Solomon. Solomon could have asked God for anything, and he would have received it. He asked for wisdom. He wanted to be the best king that he could be. He felt young and inexperienced, and he wanted to do a good job with such an enormous task ahead of him. As a pastor, I also want to fulfill God's purpose for my life as well as possible. As a dad, I want to be the best dad that I can be. I want to be the best husband that I can be for my wife, and I want to be the best big brother ever, as well as a son that my parents would be proud of. But I sometimes find myself asking God for the insignificant things instead of what I really need. You see, Solomon couldn't have been a great king with just wealth or fame. He needed wisdom from God. And because he asked for the very thing that lined up with God's will, God also blessed Him with what he didn't ask for! I really believe that we honor God in a huge way when our hearts truly desire to be the people that He created us to be. Let our prayer today be to ask God to equip us with whatever it might be that would cause us to excel in our place in His kingdom.

I couldn't agree more. Even as a child I wanted to be better than what I was. I don't beleive in the extreme side of ambition, but a healthy Godly stiving to be better. It's nice to see what is really important to God and be reminded to seek after those things.
