The Whisper of God

1 Kings 19:11, 12 “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. Sometimes we just need to slow down and listen. That's what meditation is; it's slowing down long enough to hear God. Elijah didn't hear God in the mighty wind, the earthquake, or the fire. Gods voice came as a gentle whisper. Are you sensitive enough to hear Him whisper? With all of the hustle and bustle and busyness in our lives, we often fail to hear His gentle voice. And it's His gentle voice that brings the comfort that we need. Elijah just experienced fire falling from heaven, but it didn't calm his fears. It was when God spoke softly and told him that he wasn't the only one serving The Lord, that there was thousands of faithful servants of God......it was then that Elijah's fear and loneliness melted away. It was after hearing God's whisper that Elijah went and found Elisha to join him in his endeavor. Elijah's anointing wouldn't die when he left, because he could hear God's gentle voice. Are you overwhelmed, lonely, confused or anxious? Shhhhhhhhh......now listen.
