Difficult Things

2 Kings 2:9, 10 When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away.” And Elisha replied, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.” “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah replied. “If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request. But if not, then you won’t.” It still blows my mind that the God of all creation not only allows us to communicate with Him, but actually desires that we do so. He hears and answers our prayers. Knowing this should cause us to consider what we ask of Him. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah's anointing, and that was asking for a lot! It even made Elijah, who had several major miracles take place during his ministry, stop and say "you have asked a difficult thing". Wow! But incredibly, God did it! Elisha had two times the miracles take place in his ministry than Elijah did. This makes me wonder if we are asking God for far less than He desires to do. I wonder if sometimes our prayers are an insult to God's ability. Maybe we question if God can do what we are praying for, while God is saying "you could ask me for so much more......I'm God!" I'm not trying to make you stop asking God to meet your needs, even if they are small. Instead I'm challenging you to begin today to ask God for some difficult things........because He can do it!

  1. Yes but do we ask God for things thinking he will do them. Or do we ask God for things knowing he will do them. Or do we Thank God for doing what we ask when we ask knowing they are done?

  4. I admit to asking God for the little things and God answers with big things. It stretches me a little bit to ask Him for big things, I geuss because I am still growing in my faith. There's nothing wrong with being stretched though. We stretch at work every morning before we run our route for the day. Trying to work our muscles while they are cold and tight is dangerous. We could damage them and be out of work for a minute. The same danger spiritualy occurs when we decide to work in God's kingdom in our on strength. Without stretching our spiritual muscles of faith first, we get out in front of God and in our on strength. That's when damage comes! First things first, then ask for bigger things for sure!
