When Man and God Meet
2 Samuel 6:7
And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
God had given detailed instructions concerning how to transport the ark of the covenant. David's haphazard handling of the ark resulted in the death of Uzzah. At first glance, it seems harsh that such a horrific punishment be dealt for such an innocent act. Uzzah was merely trying to steady it and keep it from falling, right? We must not forget that the ark was not just some golden box, it was where God and man met. The mercy seat that was on top of it was where the blood of animals was sprinkled to make atonement for their sins. The ark was where death that men deserved was transferred upon an innocent animal without blemish. The ark pointed to Christ and what He would become for us. Unholy man can't commune with Most Holy God and survive. The righteousness of God obliterates sin without fail, just read the end of the Book! That's why Uzzah died. God had given specific instructions so that something like this wouldn't happen. There will come a day for all of us when we will stand in God's holy presence, but God has provided a Lamb so that we might find mercy at His throne instead of judgement. Thank you Jesus for the blood.

I would have thought there would be a whole page of comments on this. Look what God used to do. He got mad. He struck him dead. But because of jesus we do not get struck dead, when there were times in my life that I am sure God would have been angry for doing things my way and not his. But amazing grace he loves us so much that Jesus died for us or I would not even be here now. Am I the only person who feels this way, just me a sinner loved by God forgiven by God and set free by God.So easy to forget. Good word pastor, ken
