Supper's Ready

2 Samuel 9:11 ...And from that time on, Mephibosheth ate regularly at David’s table, like one of the king’s own sons. When a king from a different family began to rule, it was customary that he would eliminate all of the possible heirs to the throne from the last king. Because of this, I'm sure that Mephibosheth thought that his days were numbered when he was summoned to stand before King David. You see he was the son of Jonathan, and the grandson of King Saul. When Mephibosheth was only five years old, his nurse heard the news that Saul and Jonathan had been killed in battle. She took the boy up and ran with him. In her haste, she dropped him and he became crippled in both feet. Now he came before David expecting the final chapter of a life of misfortune. Instead of death, which everyone would have assumed, David showed unusual favor to Mephibosheth. What a picture of grace. To escape death and be a servant would have been a blessing, but to eat at the king's table like one of the king's own sons? That's grace at the highest level! We too have been welcomed to eat at the table of our King. Although death would be expected, He has shown us favor that is beyond comprehension. Although we were children of disobedience, He has adopted us and called us His sons and daughters. I can hear Him now........"Supper's ready!"
