Generous God

2 Samuel 12:8 I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more. After David's wicked plan had ended with the death of Uriah, the prophet Nathan came and told David a story about a man who had everything, but instead took from someone who had nothing. In anger, David called for that man's life because of his deeds. Nathan then declared to David that he himself was that man. What a dagger of truth it must have been into the heart of David. Here The Lord continues by saying that He had given David so much, and would have gladly given him much, much more! But David foolishly thought that someone or something outside of God's benevolence would be better, and even worth the risk. Now God would forgive David, but David would still reap the fruit of his failure for the remainder of his reign. It would be a reign marked by bloodshed, and especially in his own family. Our choices have consequences, every time. But don't miss what God said in this verse! It reminds me of the brother of the prodigal son, when his father declared to him "everything I have is yours" (Luke 15:31). We don't have to look anywhere else. We don't have to believe the lie of sin that says forbidden fruit is sweeter. We have a loving, caring, and very generous God that desires to shower us with His blessings. The seemingly unquenchable thirst of our souls can be satisfied by the Fountain of Life that is Christ Jesus.

  1. God is very generous to His people. However, It is a great responsibility for us to ensure we trust His provision and generosity and not to long after or desire for something "else" that God is not or has not given us. Thank you Jesus for your generousity towards me and my family.

  2. I agree God does satisfy every desire that I have. His blessings are good for everybody and never hurtful to anyone. God will not give us too much and enable us to be selfish and spoiled either though. If we are willing to grow with the blessing we can can experience such great abundance!
