Sustainer

Deuteronomy 8:4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. They didn't come out of Egypt prepared for a forty year journey. It wasn't supposed to take that long, but their lack of faith prolonged their pilgrimage by many years. If this had been any other people, they would have ended up naked, hungry and dying in the desert. But this wasn't any other people, it was God's people! Even in their rebelliousness, God miraculously caused their shoes to last. Their clothes should have become worn and ragged, but were still as good as new four decades later. Their bodies shouldn't have been able to hold up to the intense pressure and beating that came from the harsh terrain day after day after day, but yet they did. The power and providence of God to sustain His people is quite remarkable. There is great keeping power in Him, and this shouldn't surprise us coming from the eternal God. We can take great security from this, especially when our strength is sapped, our bodies are weary, and our spirits are ragged. We can lean upon Him and find His keeping power. "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee....." (Psalms 55:22)

  1. Take that Nike! Fourty years is a long time to wear one pair of shoes. That just goes to show that God can make anything last, our marriages especially. Even our mistakes in our rebellion can be used be Him to bring us together. My promise land is Him. I don't want more houses or better vehicles and more money to spoil my kids with, I want to just be with my Jesus! I can get caught in the "american dream" sometimes, but my heart wants just one thing, Jesus!
