Blessed Assurance
Deuteronomy 20:3-4
3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; 4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
There are often times that the enemy seems much bigger, much stronger, more determined than us. Especially when the enemy is addiction, it almost seems impossible to win. The natural thing to do is to let your "heart faint", or to become so overwhelmed in hopelessness that you don't see any point in trying. Another natural tendency is fear, and then there is nervousness which can wreak havoc in your life daily. This passage tells us not to let these things happen. That sounds easy enough, but how do we do it? I believe that assurance is the key. You need a big ole helping of assurance, the confidence in God's desire and ability to come through for you. Assurance that God is going with you as you face your addiction head on. Assurance that God will throw the punches for you with His strong right arm. Assurance that ultimately, God will save you with His power and for His glory. That's why the old song calls assurance blessed! Assurance steadies the heart, calms your fear, and settles your nerves. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!

Thanks Pastor,that was good
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in rehab I surrendered my heart to Jesus Christ. That was the only time in my life that I was sure that I would not want to get high again. I had such an assurance that melted away all of the fear and nervousness. My dad asked me how I was doing on the phone and I told him to just watch me when I come home and he would see. The love and presence of God changed me forever. I am redemed from the curse and given the righteousness of Christ! Nothing is too hard for the Lord! Now lets get off our blessed assurance and tell the world!
