Strange Fire

Leviticus 10:1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. What was this strange fire, and what was the consequences? The strange fire was actually common fire, or fire that didn't come from the altar, or from heaven. The consequences of using this fire was death. If the ordinances of the tabernacle show us anything, we learn that pleasing God is hard to do........actually impossible to do without God's intervention. Yep, it takes God to please God! The fire of God is also very revealing in this chapter. Think about it, the fire that brought God's presence and glory, also brought judgment and destruction. We can see this reality when we look at the sun. For a tree rooted in good soil, the sun brings life and health, but take the tree out of the ground, and the same sun scorches and consumes the tree, burning it up. This strange fire that was offered, was offered outside of God's requirements. It was taking God's consuming fire out of the equation on regards to the sacrifice, but in doing so, causing His consuming fire to be unleashed upon them...........not good. His fire, the breath of His mouth, the Holy Spirit, will either purify us, or one day consume us. We don't need a common fire, we need the life transforming, sin killing, fire of His Holy Ghost to fill us today!

  1. God, I desire your fire to purify me and to consume ALL my impurities and iniquities; the type of fire that brings true life and vitality.
