Go For It
Numbers 13:27-28
27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
It was everything that God said it would be, and more. Can you imagine the look on the faces of the people when the spies came back carrying proof of the plentiful fruit of the promised land? The huge cluster of grapes that drug the ground must have brought cheers and great anticipation from the crowd, but the cheers would soon diminish as the faithless spies began to tell the rest of the story. The land of promise was inhabited by strong nations with fortified cities, and there were even giants that lived within it's boundaries. Bummer! Now comes that word of doubt, "nevertheless". In our language it would sound like this: "We spied out the land, and it was just like you said it would be, and here is the fruit to prove it..........BUT, it looks like we are out numbered, over matched, and locked out. It appears to be an impossible mission." When I read this passage, I have the benefit of knowing the outcome, and I want to yell at the pages and say "Why are you afraid? Look at everything God has done! He brought you this far, He won't let you down. It's yours, take it!" Of course, they can't hear me, because it is all in the past, but could it be that the same thing is happening to you and me today? How many times do we give up, or give in because the odds seem to be stacked against us? How many times do we step out in faith, but step back in fear? And what about that group of witnesses that the book of Hebrews speaks of? Perhaps they are looking down at us yelling "Why are you afraid? Look at everything God has done! He brought you this far, He won't let you down. It's yours, take it!" Let us not make the same mistake as the Israelites in the wilderness. Let's go after all of His promises, and believe that every obstacle that comes our way will just be an opportunity for us to experience the glory and power of our God!
