A Shared Offering
Leviticus 3:3 And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the Lord;
When we think of a peace offering, we think of giving something in order to bring peace. Maybe two people, or even two nations are at odds, and one would give a peace offering in an attempt to make amends and end the hostility. The peace offering that God instituted here does not have the same meaning. The sacrifice was not given in order to bring peace, but instead it was given because of the peace that God had already provided. It was a shared offering, in that the offerer, the priest, and God all received a portion of the sacrifice. It was a wonderful picture of how everyone involved was thankful. I can see how we sometimes get upside down when it comes to peace. We think a new car, or a new home, or even more money will bring it, but they never provide a peace that will last. What if we, instead of looking for peace in things, instead rested in the peace that has been freely given to us through Christ. Take some time today to make a peace offering unto the Lord by simply thanking Him for forgiveness and redemption. When we do that, we know that He too is sharing the joy that has come through reconciliation that was made for us on the cross of Jesus Christ. This is the peace that exceeds our understanding, and it sure does feel good.

I am thankful for the true peace that only God can provide. Thank you Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI learned something today. I didn't know that. It's very cool that it was a shared offering. It's not just for me but for others as well. thanks Jesus!
