Exodus
27:20 And thou shalt command the
children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light,
to cause the lamp to burn always.
When oil is used in the Scripture, it is a picture of the Holy Spirit. God commanded that the oil be brought to the tabernacle in such a supply that the lamp would never go out. Once again, God was giving His people a responsibility to work together in the act of worship. We are vessels of God's Holy Spirit, but it's up to us as to how full, or how empty. We can walk in the Spirit daily, in prayer and meditation, growing in our fellowship with Him, and full of His Spirit and power. We can also walk in our flesh, without regard of God in our daily routines, ignoring His Word and His call to prayer, without power and without fellowship. What happens when we choose the latter? There is no light for others to see His grace and hope of salvation. What could God do with a church that gathered together, full of oil, and ready for service? I desperately want to find out! Too many times, the church relies on one person, the pastor, or an evangelist in a week of revival services, to bring the oil and fire up the torch for all to come and see. Unfortunately, this is not God's preferred method. One person can bring some oil, but not as much as two, or twenty, a hundred, or a thousand! When was the last time that you went to your prayer closet, not to get a need met, but to get more oil? I do believe that it's time, for whatever we accomplish for Him, it will not be by might or by power, but by His Spirit. Fill us all up Lord!

Sometimes we come to the Lord so needy that we forget to bring our own oil of the spirit to worship Him with. Thats why there are groups of people in our church body that come to pray with people. Pastor is so anointed by the Holy Spirit to pray and break chains of bondage over the sheep but many times the same oil is poured from the alter workers long before prayer time has come. That comes forth from that corporate oil of the spirit flowing through many. This is one of the many reasons that comming to church is so important we break that alabastor box open with worship and it flows from the head (Gods anointed shepeard) down through the people then (as we leave) to the streets.
ReplyDeleteI like the oil symbolism. I want to burn for God with a greater intensity. I'm in!
