Fear and Trembling

Exodus 28:35 And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord, and when he cometh out, that he die not.

Going in unto the tabernacle before the presence of the Lord was an uncertain process. Because man was involved, there was no guarantee that it would be done right, and if it wasn't done according to God's commands, the penalty was fatal. We see this truth in the golden bell that was placed upon Aaron as he went into the most holy place. The bell was not for him, but for others to hear as he worked. If the bell were to stop ringing, then they would know that he was dead, and they would pull him out. This must have been nerve racking for Aaron, as he cautiously entered within the veil. I can imagine that he searched his heart and mind for impurities with great fear and trembling, hoping that he was pure enough to perform the service of God. Of course, everything has changed now that Christ has become our Great High Priest, having offered once a sacrifice for our sins. Now we are beckoned to come boldly to His throne of grace.......what a difference! But would it not still be beneficial for us to search our hearts and minds for any impurities that would hinder our most sacred fellowship with Him? Is it not still commanded of us to plan out our own salvation with fear and trembling? I pray that I would daily come boldly to His most holy place, and while I'm there, give God complete surrender to search me to see if there be any wicked way in me, and if I am fortunate enough, let my flesh die in His presence. Amen

  1. Yes brother what a word...How often we are at that point that we say "oh Lord if you see a wicked thing in me ...purge me , cleanse me let this evil flesh die in your presence" and then the very next day we are running to find "fig leaves" to cover our sins. May we all get to the point that we want God and His presence more than anything so that we realize that we CAN come boldly to the thrown of grace. No fig leaves, clean hands and face to behold His glory! Rev.Diane

  2. The contrast is very extreme between life and death. It was death in His presence before and life in His presence now. What a difference that Jesus Christ has made for us! I kinda feel bad for those who were part of the old testament. It is also interesting that death is still a part of worshipping Him. Let us live like we are dying.
