"Weird Advice" 4-20-12

Exodus 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more forever.

God's people were surrounded. They were at a dead end with the Egyptians approaching quickly. What were they to do? Fight? Run? Hide? No, "stand still". Are you kidding me? That's the most unnatural thing to do at a time like that! God had a reason for it though. It was another teaching moment for them. He wanted to show them His salvation, and that's why He led them to this seemingly impossible place. They were all about to be baptized. Not like a typical water baptism, but they were about to have a moment that would finalize their separation from Egypt, and solidify their leader, Moses. They were about walk across the Red Sea, and then watch as their oppressors drown trying to do the same. I don't know about you, but after that, I would have signed up for anything that Moses asked of me! And that's pretty much what happened. Everybody was unified, praising God, they even wrote a song about it! And they all never complained again.........well at least for a couple of days. One thing was for sure though, they would never have to worry about Pharaoh or Egyptian bondage ever again. Do you find yourself in a place where there doesn't seem to be an easy way out? Fear not, stand still, and wait for God to do what He does best!

  1. I have had a "Red Sea" experience since I surrendered completely to Christ. Sometimes the only way to see God is when our eyes are opened by our need for Him. This puts stress or pressure on just the right spot in order to bring out the brokenness within. The condition of a person who is bound by an enemy can be hidden after years of bondage. Denial, unforgivness, bitterness or other such behaviors can be our methods of survival. You feel as if you have to live this way just to make it in this world and the fear of change paralizes us from letting go. The pain of the abuse and disfunction of our past gives the fear power to live. Thank God for the "Red Sea" experiences!
