Exodus 17:6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and
thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the
people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Do ever look at what God does and think "that was weird"? I'll be
honest with you, I have. A lot of things that God does or allows are mysterious
to me, but I'm at a disadvantage. I can only see yesterday and today. God is
eternal, past, present and future. What seems weird to us today will one day
make perfect sense when God's plan unfolds for all to see. Israel was thirsty,
and God gives Moses instructions to strike the rock at Horeb with his staff.
Moses did, and water came forth so that the people could drink. A little weird,
right? Couldn't God just bring the water down from heaven, or even out of the
rock without having to hit it? Of course He could, but God was doing much more
than just giving them a drink of water. God was painting a picture of
redemption, an illustration, a symbolic view that would mean more later than it
did then. Through the eyes of the New Testament, we see that the rock was
Christ, and the Rock would be smitten, and from Him would flow the Water of
Life that would spring up within us as rivers of living water. The next time
that God does something that seems a little weird, just trust Him and wait, for
He has a purpose in everything that He does.
Awesome word! Why didn't I think of that one?LOL! I've alaways enjoyed the way God does things like this. You can't say that God is a boring God. These challenges for Isreal had to be difficult for them since they went thru them physicaly. I've never had to be concerned about water or food really. I feel like I live in such an abundant country that we never really have a comparable trial as Isreal did. I geuss spiritually speaking we can go thru similar tests. But, we can beleive that God has a purpose for the pain and suffering. We must believe!
