God's To Do List

Exodus 16:4 Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Okay, let's review. The Israelites come out of Egypt with the spoils of the Egyptians. They reach the Red Sea and they doubt and complain. God opens the sea and then closes it on the Egyptians. Three days later, they get thirsty, and they doubt and complain. God turns bitter water into sweet water, and then leads them to an oasis at Elim. Now hunger hits the camp, and you guessed it, doubting and complaining.......and God sends down manna from heaven. Every morning, when the dew went away, this bread would appear, and the people were commanded to collect a "certain rate". It was another lesson in trust for the people of God, and they failed! Some of them tried to gather more than a day's worth, and when the next day came, their excess manna was filled with worms and was rotting. By only allowing them a daily portion at a time, God was teaching them to trust Him every day, not just once in awhile. I'm reminded of the words of Jesus as He taught His disciples how to pray, He said "give us this day, our daily bread". We think that security means that we have enough stored up for several years, but true security is knowing that the Creator of the heavens and the earth has me on His "to do" list each and every day, and He won't forget me. Have you taken time to gather your manna this morning? He has provided you with everything that you need for today.

  1. I can relate to the Israelites in this matter for sure. Deep down I do want "manifested" security, meaning I want to know that I'm ok just in case God forgets about me or for whatever reason He doesn't come through. Lord, give me this day my daily bread..... and Lord help my unbelief. Thank you Jesus for your word and faithfulness, and may I walk by Faith and not by sight. Amen.

  2. Our need for more is driven by fear, which God has not given us a spirit of fear. God has given us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Trust is such an important essential part of "real" life that God would allow the manna to rotten! I look back now at times when I lost money, or peace or joy. Could it be God putting trust in my life? Could the spiritual famines or the bitter waters of my life be sent from heaven to give me something more precious? I see says the blind man! Wow, take that devil! Trust in God is more important that my feelings. Trust is more valuable than comfort! What does our value system look like? Have we accepted it? Sometimes out of ignorance I still complain, help me Jesus!
