Genesis 7:5 And Noah did according to all that the LORD commanded him.
How important was it for Noah to do everything that God commanded? His life depended on it! No one had ever built a boat before, because no one had ever needed one, so it was extremely important that every detail was followed. Only God knew what the next several days would be like, and only God knew what would be needed for survival. That sort of describes our life doesn't it? I mean, I don't know what is coming next , and I don't know what I'm going to need to navigate the next season in my journey. But there is one thing for sure, God does! God knows what is coming my way tomorrow, and that thing that surprised you didn't surprise him at all. All of this is important to know because we must strive to live in complete obedience. Maybe there is something that God has been speaking in your heart to do, and you have ignored it because you do well in so many other areas of your life.......what is leaving one part out going to hurt, right? Partial obedience on Noah's part would have been devastating when the waters started rising. Partial obedience on our part will also have a destructive impact on our situations as well. And let's not forget that Jesus came and lived a perfect life of obedience in order to save us from all of our imperfections. Did He do it so that we could continue to be complacent about partial obedience, or did He do it to set an example for us and show us the way by sending His Spirit to live within us? I think you know the answer.
Man what a serious subject about God and ourselves. I have displayed many times partial obedience and now that I am thinking about it, it may have caused a lot of the problems that I had. God never leaves us but that doesn't mean that He doesn't allow the consequences of our choices to affect us accordingly. Thank God for His Holy Spirit that is alive and very effective to help us say yes and no. His grace and love even gives us energy to perform!
