2Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

Let's take a look at a couple of things here this morning. First, take a look at the order when the Scripture says "let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity". Salvation by grace is a free gift apart from works. This happens when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection. This is how a sinner with a wicked past can be washed clean in a moment by the blood of Jesus Christ. Now notice what comes next............a departure from iniquity. With just a quick look at the Greek words for "depart" and "iniquity", we can see clearly what God is saying to us through the scripture. The word "iniquity" is simply translated as "unrighteousness of heart and life". The word "depart" means "to withdraw, to remove, to go away, to desert, to shun, to flee......get the point? The day you got saved, God took you from the broad way that leads to destruction, and placed you on the narrow way that leads to life. We live each day either walking toward Him, or away from Him. In other words, we are departing from our faith, or we are departing from our past. This should be an easy decision, but the flesh isn't comfortable with our departure. Our departure from iniquity is a life that say "thank you" to God for His everlasting mercy and love. I pray today that you take a few steps in the right direction. Amen

  1. I am very greatful that I am not in the same place that I was before I got saved. My bags were packed that day and I have been on my way home ever since! There have been many distactions on the way but God has drawn me with His love back down the narrow path. I am glad that I know the name of Christ!
