Jonah 1:15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
Today we're gonna talk about when God calmed the storm. Now it's not the time when the disciples were in a boat and woke up Jesus, no this one happened about 800 years before the birth of Christ. The prophet Jonah was running from God. He was intentionally going in the opposite direction of where God told him to go. He was on a ship headed for Tarshish, even though God had told him to go to Ninevah. And that brings us to the storm. It was a storm like the sailors on that boat had never seen. They were not godly folk, but even they had their suspicions that the storm was God's doing. Jonah knew it too, but he wasn't in a hurry to admit it. Jonah actually let the others figure out that he was the problem before he finally confessed, and then he came clean. Now with his rebellion out in the open, Jonah spared the lives of the crew by going over board. Just as soon as Jonah hit the water, the storm subsided and the sea became calm. It was the beginning of Jonah's restoration. I have found myself in a storm or two during my life, and I must admit that some have even been of mine own doing. Looking back, I thank God for the storms that He used to force me over board from the ship that I was sailing in away from Him. I'm thankful to say that my God can speak "peace" to the storms......even the ones that I cause. Amen
To me personally, the storms I cause are the most difficult to overcome. I mean, if I'm facing something that is just an attack from the enemy my trust in God is stronger because I know He will come through. BUT..... When the storms are by my own hand I lose that confidence in God's willingness to get me through. But thanks be to God and His Son Jesus Christ who will be faithful regardless of the origin of the storm!!!
