Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
I like how this passage uses the word "trust" and "remember" in the same context. We don't think of them as being the same, but they really are connected. We tend to "trust" in what has worked for us in the past, or in other words, what we remember. If someone has placed their trust in their wealth, if times get tough, they are comforted by remembering that they are rich, and they lean on their material possessions for comfort. We all have something or someone that we trust in this manner. These things are not evil in themselves, but they all have a great weakness in that they can be lost. Someone can trust in their riches all of their life and then one day have it all taken away, or find that there are certain kinds of crisis that can't be solved with money. That's why there is only one true place to anchor our trust.......the name of the Lord! Jesus is the problem solver, the healer, and the life giver. No matter how great our account might grow in this life, no matter how much we might accumulate, no matter how many blessings are bestowed upon us, I pray that we "trust" and "remember" where our anchor is. Amen.
I can't tell you how many times I have heard from christians in my church,"God brought us through worse situations, He will do it again"! Trusting God is easier the next time we have to. We will over come the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. The battle over trust is within our minds and our tongue is our greatest weapon or our biggest enemy. Speak life get life, speak death get death! I know it hurts but there is a reason for the pain. God help us to surrender no matter how much it may hurt, in Jesus name!
