GFYD 12-14-11

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife…..

I can’t even begin to imagine what must have been going through the mind of Joseph. Here he was, engaged to this sweet and precious young woman, ready to start a life together, grow a family. It was going to be great. And then he got the news. Mary was pregnant. You have got to be kidding me! Not Mary! It just didn’t seem right. This couldn’t be true, but the evidence was the evidence, and Joseph was faced with the hard decision of cancelling their wedding plans because of what he thought was Mary’s infidelity. Verse twenty says “while he thought on these things”. It’s moments like that when the devil really starts pumping in those septic thoughts. I would assume that Joseph was angry and confused……..I know that I would be. His mind probably filled in all of the missing pieces and it just made things even worse! We must be careful not to let our minds run wild and wrongly fill in the blanks about people that have hurt us, or wronged us. The devil will add fuel to the fire if we will let him, or we can take those thoughts captive and choose not to always think the worst about people. Who knows, if we let give God a chance, He might just fill in the blanks in a way that will shock us! To be continued…..Amen.
