Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Let’s look at a couple of interesting words in this passage today. First, the one word that jumps off the page at me is the word “liberty”. Liberty is a word that should define us as a people of God. We serve God with passion because He has made us free. We don’t, or least we shouldn’t serve God because of the letter, or what the law says, but we serve God by the Spirit that has purchased our liberty. When I’m driving in my car, I try to stay somewhere close to the speed limit because I don’t want to get a ticket, and I definitely don’t want to go to jail! But serving God under the new covenant doesn’t work that way, although many teach it that way. Some people try to live a godly life in order to miss the eternal jail called Hell, but the gift of grace, having already secured our home in Heaven, leads us to live a godly life defined by our love for the Father. Now, look closely at the first two words of the scripture today…..”stand fast”. To me that means that we should daily check ourselves that we are not becoming entangled with the “works salvation” way of living, but instead, through liberty we are becoming perfected more and more each day through a greater revelation of God’s love for us! Amen.
