You Are What You Worship
2 Kings 17:15
They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors, and they despised all his warnings. They worshiped worthless idols, so they became worthless themselves. They followed the example of the nations around them, disobeying the LORD’s command not to imitate them.
After many warnings from The Lord, it finally happened. Israel was taken into captivity by the Assyrians. Israel chose to worship false gods, and their false gods could not help them when they needed it. The text reads that their worthless idols made them worthless. That's pretty tough to swallow, but it was true. We are what we worship, even more so than what we eat! If we worship material possessions, we become materialistic and greedy. If we worship what makes us feel good, then we become slaves to finding the next higher high. It's a dead end road. Worshiping worthless things really does cause us to become a shell of ourselves, and removes the potential of who we can be in Him. On the contrary, worshiping God cases us to become more and more like Him. Worshiping God raises the potential within us to unimaginable heights. Make the commitment today to clean house, remove the worthless idols in your life, and watch what God can do through a life that worships Him alone.
