Heart for Rent

1 Kings 11:9 The LORD was very angry with Solomon, for his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. Solomon didn't just wake up one morning and decide not to love God anymore. It was a slow fade that started with bad choices. The Lord had commanded that he not have many wives, but Solomon chose not to obey and had several hundred women in his life. If that wasn't bad enough, Solomon built altars for the pagan gods of his wives, and eventually began to worship them too. Solomon lost his passion and love for God because he gave his heart away one piece at a time until there was none left. Unfortunately, this is also the case for many of God's people today. They want the relationship with God that they used to have, but their heart has been rented out to other people and things. For them too, it was a slow fade that stole away their devotion that once belonged to God. The obvious question is "how do I get back to where I so desperately want to be?". Anyone that has rented knows that the eviction process can be pretty tough, and this is also true of removing desires that have taken up residence in your heart and have crowded God out. It must be a daily process, and it will take some authority and power from the Holy Spirit. I challenge you today to give out some eviction notices, and pray that God would help you to enforce them. You will have a heart for God again, and with His help, it begins in earnest today.

  1. Proverbs 4:23
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
It's odd that the author of this verse was also known as one of the wisest men in the entire world, his name; Solimon. Apparently Solomon had become relaxed in his convictions and wisdom and allowed things to creep into his life. We must be very cautious and alert to ensure we "guard our hearts" Take down your "for rent" sign and replace it with one that says, "SOLD!!" Thank you Jesus.
