"Counting the Stars" 3-12-12

Genesis 15:5 Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

Think about this for a minute! God told Abraham that his descendants would be uncountable. As amazing as that sounds, now consider that Abraham and Sarah had no children, and on top of that, they were old! A few thousand years later, we can see that God's promise to Abraham has been fulfilled, just like every other promise that God makes to His people. At the time that the promise was given, it just didn't seem possible, but God's promises don't rely upon what we see as possible or impossible. What promises has God given to you? What promises have you read out of His Word that speak into your own heart? Are you living with hope in light of those promises, or are you looking in unbelief for another way? I want to encourage you today that His Word is sure. It is dependable. It is faithful. If He has spoken it, it will come to pass. The next time that you look up into the night sky, try to count all of those stars, and then remember Abraham, and then thank God for all of His promises.
