"A Pleasing Sacrifice" 2-28-12

Genesis 4:4 And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

What's the big deal? Why did God receive Abel's offering, but reject Cain's? Abel brought the first born animals to God, while Cain brought the fruit of the ground. I believe that this was God's first lesson to man about how to approach Him. The fruit of the ground that Cain brought represented the work of his hands and the sweat of his brow. It was because of sin that man had to grow food this way to survive. Our toils and labor can never be enough to make us right before God. We can never work enough to remove the stain of sin on our heart. That's why Abel's offering pleased God. It was an offering that looked into the future to the day that the Lamb of God would die for the sins of the world. Abel must have been told by Adam that God was the One who first sacrificed an animal to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve when they first sinned in the garden. The animal skins were God's reminder that sin had a price tag, and the price was always death. What kind of offering are you trying to bring to God? Are you working for His favor? The only way to come to God is through His Son, Jesus Christ, for He was the sacrifice that was offered once, and one time was enough! Amen

  1. Most of us probably don't look at God and see that coming to Him is a privlege with requirments. Before I knew Him I didn't see it that way. I thought He owed me something. After all, He put me in this world and I was not happy! Sin had blinded me from seeing the God that loves me and wants to have a father-son relationship with me, and that He is worthy. I blamed Him for all of lifes problems and hurts. I geuss I just didn't want to take responsibilty for myself and deal with it. Since my conversion to Christ, I have realized a lot. Yes He does love us but our sin had to be dealt with for our relationship to be made right again. Jesus made it right!

  2. This is true ,we have an age old story we try to fix it our self .I believe when we find Jesus as our Lord and Savior...he's so Loving even when we are so bad...I want to fix things.Someone invites you to lunch we try to pay for it or take them out again to repay them. But thanks be to God his love for us prepared the way for you and I even when I felt likes it's over...Jesus says I've Got you by the hand just follow me.Like David he said, My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. ps. 63;8... praise THE Lord THAT HE LIFTS US UP! When we are weak,it is then that he will be strong. rely upon the LORD YOUR God for he is your strength, defense, and guide in all our ways.
