GFYD 12-26-11 "No Church on Christmas?"

Ephesians 3:15 ...from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named....

Family is extremely important.....even more so when it is the family of God! As followers of Jesus Christ, we are all part of God's family together. There is no color, gender, or social status that can separate us from being brothers and sisters in Christ. As a family, we must take every opportunity to encourage growth and unity. We must teach and train our children that we are in this world, but not of this world. That's why I found it hard to believe that churches debated whether or not to have services because of Christmas falling on Sunday this year. To me it was a no brainer. For the family of God, Christmas is about Jesus. Jesus is the main event. Not Wal-Mart or the mall. Not ipods or ipads or iphones. Not video games or ponies. Not even Christmas dinner with family and friends. I'm not saying that these shouldn't be experienced during Christmas (I can hold my own with anyone at the dinner table!), I'm simply saying that the main event....the reason for the season is JESUS. Without the birth of Christ, we have no reason to celebrate. Without the grace of God demonstrated in the birth of our Savior , we are eternally lost. To me it would be a slap in the face of God to forsake our assembling together on His birthday so that we could have one more hour in the day to eat ham or watch football. I understand that everyone can't make it to church when Christmas falls on Sunday, but I believe that it is of utmost importance for our churches to open their doors for the family of God to come together and worship Immanuel :)
